Natural beauty looks have flooded our bridal inspiration pages, proving the timeless adage, “less is more.” But when it’s your wedding day you have every excuse to add a little shimmer and accentuate the high points of your face for a look that is playful and glamorous without overdoing it. Featuring neutral tones and dewy balms, these iridescent and inspiring looks will have you reaching for the highlighter and  bronzer palette in preparation for your big day.

Good skin is the best make up

It’s a common truism that rigorous skin care is the primary step towards achieving a flawless makeup look. Since iridescent beauty looks are designed to accentuate the natural texture and subtle nuances of the complexion, it’s incredibly important to look after your skin by keeping it cleansed and hydrated. Moisturised skin will create a dewy appearance underneath a light coverage foundation that evens out redness and covers any unwanted blemishes. Apply a lighter shade of concealer under your eyes to complete this skin-plumping base. Hydrating mist is another essential when it comes to setting your face for a soft and dewy look.

Farewell Fiance pick: Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist by Herbivore combines coconut water with hibiscus petals for a plant based facial indulgence.

Cheeky balms

We love a quality product that can do two jobs in one. Lip and cheek balms are a great way of adding a little flush of colour and shine, keeping in line with your natural beauty aesthetic. They are also a great base for your highlighter or powder, helping to keep everything in its place. Eyeshadow gloss offers a unique alternative to the usual smoke-eye or bridal ombre look. Apply lightly above the eye and build up for more colour saturation. The light will reflect off your glossy lids, creating a goddess-like aesthetic that will have people complementing your radiance all day long.

Farewell Fiance pick: Glossier’s Balm Dotcom is our saving grace and helps to liven up the lips, eyelids and cheeks for a youthful glow. The cherry balm flavour provides the ideal red tone for a blushing bridal look. The Milk Makeup Holographic Stick in the shade ‘Mars’ also does a great job at being both a highlighter, eyeshadow and lip accent. Pop a little bit on to the centre of your lips to create a galactic ombre effect.

Highlighting and Strobing

If you’re not up to date with the latest make up trends, don’t worry, there’s just one that you will need to take note of to create this luminous bridal look. Highlighting, sometimes referred to as ‘strobing,’ uses a light coloured shimmery cream or powder to emphasise the high points of your face where the light usually hits – your brow bone, the tip of your nose, your cheekbones, and your Cupid’s bow. This creates a glow from every angle and helps to brighten up your complexion for a light and fresh feel. The addition of highlighter to various points on your lip line and Cupid’s bow will help to soften the contrast between your skin and lip colour. Knock this shimmery look up a few levels by applying a similar shade to the inner corners of your eyes, gradually fading to the outer corners. Highlighter creams and strobe sticks help to brighten up the face and are easy to pop in your wedding bag and use for on the go touch ups.

Farewell Fiance pick: The NARS Hot Sand Illuminator has a warm pigment that serves as either a bronzer or a highlighter  to create the ultimate iridescent, sun kissed complexion. If you prefer a powdered highlighter, the Ambient Lighting Powder by Hourglass has an incredibly fine formula for an effortless, champagne tinted sheen.
