Terrace and Courtyard Celebrations

Friday 9th March 2018
Let’s take the party outside. Reminiscent of restaurants and villas of the Mediterranean, courtyard spaces present a unique environment for your ceremony or reception and offer an enchanting blend between the indoors and the open air. Celebrate your wedding under a ceiling of stars; the inadvertent guests to such an intimate occasion.

Viewing inspiring images of courtyard ceremonies and terrace celebrations is enough to make any couple want to plan a destination wedding on the Mediterranean. This is a great idea and you should definitely make it happen. But if you’re not too keen on leaving the country, you’ll be happy to know that you don’t have to venture to Italy or Mallorca to make your wedding dreams a reality. The idea of dining and socialising in a terrace or courtyard environment is one that virtually underpins the al fresco cafe and bar culture. People love experiencing the openness of the outdoors from the comfort of somewhere that’s relaxed and intimate. It’s just the right amount of cosy meets the refreshing cool of night.

Having your wedding in a courtyard atmosphere usually means elegant long tables, shared platters, grazing stations and festoon lighting, keeping in alignment with the Mediterranean inspiration. This festive style of celebration adds to the casual atmosphere, where guests are encouraged to move around the space and not feel fixed to one place. Perhaps what I love most about the courtyard wedding venue is that it is essentially a ‘room’ that has been created through negative space. There’s something inherently charming about a place that’s designed as a thoroughfare of sorts – intentionally vast and vacant – is reimagined to capture an exciting new sense of purpose. It’s unique, romantic and inherently creative, all the things you want from a wedding venue.

So if you’re staying put in Australia to celebrate your wedding, here are some great venues with killer courtyard areas where you can tie the knot…
