Creating the ‘Wow’

Monday 21st September 2015
During initial brainstorming sessions with the design team, the question ”And… the WOW?” is always raised. Each and every wedding needs to have a definitive answer for this question. There absolutely has to be something about each wedding - style and design wise that is unforgettable. Something the guests will report back on that is not related to the mouth-watering salmon or ah-maaazing espresso martinis made by the exotic dreamboat bartender.

We sought expert advice from the talented team at Georgeous Occasions on creating the ultimate wedding ‘wow’ factor that will leave your guests spellbound.

Having a venue, which in itself is a talking point, is at times enough ’WOW’.
We styled a wedding in an incredible exposed brick barn, where guests were guided down a dusty driveway of a sheep station. Eventually they arrived to this barn and the scene was set. Add in a few crows for sound effects. The unexpected space was far from a traditional wedding venue and needed little styling.

Our advice would be to try to look beyond the obvious for a venue and ceremony location. On our way to a ceremony site inspection, we walked past a beautiful congregation of silver birches, although no one had been married in this spot and the venue manager was a little reluctant to have it there, we saw the potential in this space. Both the couple and their closest family and friends absolutely loved it.

Often within a more traditional venue or a Marquee we are briefed and encourage designing a feature piece. It is well worth investing your priorities and budgets into some sort of custom component and feature piece. We promise you, it will feature heavily on your wedding hash tag the day after. Exactly ‘what’ the custom component is can vary greatly. It does not need to be dramatic or extravagant. It may be a decal on the floor or a custom made napkin that is gifted to guests.

We have a bit of an in-house philosophy that every wedding is a ‘journey’. We love offering an element of surprise to each wedding and to surprise the guests with unexpected touches. It could be the reveal of a hidden space at some point in the night (cocktail lounge anyone?). It can be a surprise element like a room filled with balloons or a confetti bomb at midnight… Oh how I could go on… Needless to say guests are always impressed. It is amazing what a wire and drape can conceal and leave to the imagination!
